Feature Friday - Butterfly Kisses Cayman

Butterfly Kisses Cayman is a new local business, founded by Jerrica Watt, specializing in jewelry design and creation with somewhat of an island twist. As Art Nest will be the first retailer to feature this line, we wanted to give our readers and customers a chance to find out more about the line and the person behind the jewelry.

Art Nest: What is the story behind your brand, Butterfly Kisses? Does it have a special significance?

Jerrica: I wanted to make jewelry and accessories that would be fun, charming, and chic. The name came about from my love of butterflies and went well with my personality which I wanted to be reflected in my brand. The brand is also very affordable while still giving the purchaser a quality product.

Art Nest: How did you get started into jewelry making and how long have you been doing it for?

Jerrica: I’ve always been very artistic and creative. As a child, I was always drawn to painting, drawing and creating. I was always asking my mother to buy me art kits from our local book store every week. As I got older, I continued to paint and draw in my spare time. I did not get in to jewelry making until last year. It started as a hobby that I’ve turned in to a small business. I’m very new to this but I’m enjoying every minute!

Art Nest: What metals/materials do you currently work with? Which is your favorite and why?

Jerrica: I work with plated metals as well as seed beads for my hand-beaded Kumihimo bracelets. I love how the seed beads truly become a work of art after I’ve finished making a Kumihimo bracelet. I tell people it’s like wearing a work of art on your wrist.

Art Nest: Is your jewelry geared towards both sexes? If no, are you planning on branching out to creating jewelry for men as well?

Jerrica: I currently only design and handcraft pieces for women but I’ve received quite a few inquiries about pieces for men so I plan to venture in to a line for men next year.

Art Nest: Where do you draw your inspiration from for the creation of your pieces?

Jerrica: I love accessories and most of my inspiration comes from my own personal style as well as from Cayman. My Grand Cayman lariat necklaces feature a Cayman map as well as a starfish, which is the first Cayman themed piece that I have created. Cayman will continue to be a theme throughout my brand as my brand grows.

Art Nest: How would you describe your style of jewelry design?

Jerrica: I would say my style is chic, hand-crafted fashion jewelry made for everyday wear.

Art Nest: How do you want your jewelry to make people feel while they are wearing it?

Jerrica: I want people to feel like they’re wearing a piece of Cayman. Not only when they wear Cayman themed pieces but, for all pieces, because it was made locally by a Caymanian.

Art Nest: Are there any jewelry designers that you look up to? If yes who and why?

Jerrica: I love Kate Spades' jewelry line. Her brand encompasses so many things that I love, specifically glitter! One of Kate Spades' mottoes is, “Be Happy, be bright, be you” and this is definitely one of the things I want my brand to say.

Art Nest: What do you envision for the future of Butterfly Kisses?

Jerrica: I hope Butterfly Kisses continues to grow and that I am able to get my pieces in to various locations over the next year. Like any other business, there is always room for improvement. I plan to continue to learn new skills in the jewelry making world and apply them to my brand and make it better every year.
